On January 25, 2012 Jack McCarthy was appointed the Executive Director of the Massachusetts School Building Authority. Prior to this, from August 2003 to August 2011, he worked at the Inspector General’s Office as the Senior Assistant Inspector General. It was there that he was responsible for advising the Inspector General on issues concerning prevention and detection of fraud, waste and abuse by all state, county, and municipal entities of the Commonwealth, including authorities, commissions, boards, and special districts. He also served as the Inspector General’s Chief Representative; assisting in the development and determination of short and long-term goals and objectives for the office.
Prior to working for the Inspector General, Jack was Deputy Chief of the Norfolk County Sheriffs Department, where he oversaw Community Connections and Electronic Monitoring Program. From 1991 to 2003, he was elected as Moderator for the Town of Norwood. From January 1995 to March 2000, he was Chief of Staff at the Office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth. It was there that he was responsible for the overall management and key policy development of all 20 divisions, with staff of over 400 employees, and an annual operating budget of $20 million. Jack represented the Secretary before primary constituent groups; such as business and legal communities and numerous state and federal government agencies. He was voted “Press Secretary of the Year” by the Massachusetts State House Press Corps first in 1994, and then again from 1996 through 1999. Additionally, in February of 2000, Jack was published in Massachusetts Election Administration, Campaign Finance and Lobbying Law, Massachusetts Continuing Legal Election, writing a chapter on “State Ballot Law Commission.”
After graduating from Boston Latin School and Boston College, he attended Suffolk University Law School, earning a Juris Doctor degree, and was admitted to the bar in 1988. Jack resides in Norwood with his wife Linda and two daughters Kristen and Megan.
