Jack McCarthy, Executive Director of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (“MSBA”), today joined state and local officials at a ribbon cutting ceremony for the North Reading Middle/High School. The MSBA is contributing a maximum total facilities grant of over $49 million of eligible expenses towards the $123.2 million project.
“The MSBA is delighted to have taken part in this important project,” Executive Director McCarthy said. “Thanks to our successful partnership with North Reading, students and staff will benefit from a 21st century learning and teaching environment for many years to come.”
The project renovated the existing North Reading Middle School and created new space to replace the old North Reading High School. The total building area of the integrated Middle/High School facility is 267,939 square feet. The middle school and high school are connected by a shared core, which also houses the media center. New space includes a distance learning lab, as well as an increased number of classrooms. North Reading Middle/High School serves 1,370 students in grades 6-12.
The MSBA partners with Massachusetts communities to support the design and construction of educationally appropriate, flexible, sustainable and cost-effective public school facilities. Since its 2004 inception, the Authority has made over 1,600 site visits to more than 250 school districts as part of its due diligence process and has made over $11.5 billion in reimbursements for school construction projects.
