Jack McCarthy, Executive Director of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (“MSBA”), today joined state and local officials at a groundbreaking ceremony for the new North Middlesex Regional High School located in Townsend. The MSBA is contributing a maximum total facilities grant of up to $40,210,028 of eligible expenses towards the $89 million project.
“I am delighted to help break ground on this important and long-awaited project,” Executive Director McCarthy said. “Thanks to the MSBA’s partnership with the District, students and staff of North Middlesex Regional High School will benefit from a state-of-the-art learning and teaching environment for generations to come.”
The project will replace the current school with a new 180,530 square-foot facility serving 870 students in grades 9 through 12. The existing school suffers from deficiencies in major building systems including mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building envelope. North Middlesex Regional High School was built in 1960.
The MSBA partners with Massachusetts communities to support the design and construction of educationally appropriate, flexible, sustainable and cost-effective public school facilities. Since its 2004 inception, the Authority has made over 1,500 site visits to more than 250 school districts as part of its due diligence process and has made over $11.3 billion in reimbursements for school construction projects.
